Handling billions of transactions daily with ease.
PayPal has been the most popular online payment option since it was founded in 1998. Not only did they survive the dot-com bubble, launch a successful rebrand, and purchase two major competitors (Xoom and Venmo), but they also handle billions of transactions a day with ease. And that’s why we immediately said ‘yes’ when they came back to us with another project in the summer of 2016. One of the big advantages PayPal has is their fraud protection and story-based analytics model. It’s so compelling that it was turned into a Ted Talk. To help explain their unique model and the volume of transactions that they process, PayPal enlisted us to create a massive, custom multi-touch experience that would be installed in their San Jose headquarters.
There are several reasons why a touch-installation based around a 110” grid of 4k TVs excited us. Designing an interactive 3D globe on a massive display was certainly a unique enough challenge alone. We worked with PayPal to create an exploratory mode for visitors, as well as a custom UI and story-mode that PayPal presenters could use on guided tours for their guests. Our final delivery included a deck of static designs, motion prototypes and a proof-of-concept iPad app that displayed real data on a thematically correct 3D globe. PayPal continues to challenge us with each new project they hand us, ultimately helping us set the bar higher for ourselves.
It’s no secret we 🖤the Klim Type Foundry. In fact, the primary font for Rally is Financier, which happens to be a Klim Foundry font. So when we had the opportunity to work with PayPal we were stoked to find out they had just wrapped up an engagement with Klim to create PayPal Sans. Rock on Klim 🤘🏼.
