We’ve known and admired Dann Petty for years. In 2015, Dann served as the Creative Director for a San Francisco-based car valet known as Luxe. “Luxe is an on-demand valet parking app that lets you request a valet to park for you wherever you’re going. Our vetted and trained valets park your car in a secure garage or lot and return your car to you where and when you want it back.” In April of 2015, Dann came to Rally asking for help redesigning the Luxe app. Functionally, the app worked fine but he sought a better-crafted experience.

This meant that both Rally’s design and engineering teams would be involved with creating a high-quality prototype, which would allow the Luxe team to “cherry pick” elements that were actually in native code. We built a fluid prototype that made requesting a valet, and receiving notifications throughout the process, much more transparent to the user. We dialed up the playful ‘fiddle’ factor as well by adding some delightfully animated elements to guide the user through the process. Some concepts, such as the 3D timer that morphed into a road and reacted to the accelerometer, required us to do part of the development in OpenGL.
